Nobody circles the block on South Congress looking for a spot. Nobody skips the second drink at dinner because they are driving. The car waits, the divider goes up, and the city outside the window looks better than it does from behind a steering wheel.

An anniversary evening, the way it usually goes
The car arrives at the house in Circle C or a condo downtown at six thirty, a stretch Lincoln or a Chrysler with the mood lighting on and something chilled in the wet bar. The first stop is dinner. Uchi on South Lamar, Olamaie for the biscuits, or a table on Rainey at El Naranjo, wherever the reservation is, and the driver waits nearby for the two hours a tasting menu takes. After dinner the night can go a few directions. The Elephant Room on Congress has jazz in a basement most nights, the Driskill bar has the leather chairs and the longhorn, and the Paramount often has a show that ends around ten. The drive home is the part most couples remember: a slow route out Lake Austin Boulevard past Mozart's, or across the Pennybacker Bridge on Loop 360 with the lake lit up below, or just the long way through the neighborhoods with the divider up. It is a three- or four-hour night, and it feels like a weekend away.
Proposals, and the sunset that makes them work
A number of date-night bookings are proposals in disguise, and the plan is usually built around a view. Mount Bonnell at golden hour is the classic, with the limo waiting at the base of the stairs and the driver in on the secret, then dinner afterward so the ring gets a table to sit on. The Oasis on Lake Travis is the other big one: a sunset over the water from the upper deck, a longer drive out RM 2222 that becomes part of the anticipation, and a slow ride back with the lighting turned down. Some couples do it on the Congress Avenue Bridge with the bats as the backdrop, which is loud and crowded and somehow perfect. The driver is the one person who knows the plan the whole time, keeps the car ready, and knows where to pull over for the photo afterward. February is a busy month for this: January through March is about 23% of Austin requests in our records, and Valentine's week carries a lot of the two-passenger bookings we see.

Double dates and the group version
Three couples make a different night than one. Six people in a limo sprinter or a ten-passenger stretch have room to spread out, and the evening turns into a progressive one: cocktails at a warehouse-district bar on West Fourth, dinner on East Sixth, and a nightcap at a rooftop on Congress with the Capitol lit up at the end of the street. The sprinter suits a group that wants to talk on the way, with the executive seating facing each other and the lighting low. The stretch suits a group that wants to feel like a limo night, with the wet bar in use between stops. Either way the ride is a couple of hours across a four- to five-hour booking, and the rest is spent at tables. Groups of ten or fewer are about 20% of Austin requests, and the couples version is a good share of that. It is also the booking people make for a milestone, the fortieth birthday or the tenth anniversary, where the other couples are in on the surprise.

Weeknights, the Hill Country, and the drive as the date
Date nights do not need a Saturday. A Tuesday evening in October, when the heat is finally gone, is one of the best nights of the Austin year, and the limos are wide open. Some couples skip downtown altogether and make the drive the point: out US-290 to Dripping Springs for a distillery tasting, a dinner in the Hill Country, and a ride home in the dark with the stars out past Oak Hill. Others go the other way, to a lake-side dinner on Lake Austin at Hula Hut or Ski Shores, where the car waits in the lot and the water does the rest. The median inquiry in our booking data arrives 30 days ahead, but a weeknight date can be arranged closer than that, and the choice of car is wider. The white Chrysler for a first anniversary, the black Lincoln for a fortieth, the sprinter for a couple who wants the WiFi to stay off and the windows to stay big.
