Tailgating in Austin: The Party Starts in the Parking Lot

In Texas, tailgating is not a pre-game activity — it is a way of life. On Saturdays during football season, the area around DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium transforms into a city within a city. Tens of thousands of burnt-orange-clad fans set up elaborate tailgate camps with smokers, flat-screen TVs, full bars, and sound systems. Bevo Boulevard — the university's official fan zone — features live music, food trucks, games, and appearances by Bevo the Longhorn mascot.

But the tailgate experience comes with serious logistical pain points. Parking near DKR costs fifty to one hundred dollars per vehicle, and the good spots are snapped up hours before kickoff. The walk from affordable parking on the campus periphery to the stadium can take twenty to thirty minutes. After the game, the parking lots are gridlocked for sixty to ninety minutes as 100,000 fans all try to leave at once.

Therefore, a party bus is the ultimate tailgating vehicle. The bus arrives three to four hours before kickoff, parks in a designated charter area close to the stadium, and becomes your tailgate headquarters. You set up chairs, a grill, and a cooler right next to the bus. The bus's wet bar, speakers, and LED lights are running. Friends stream over from the surrounding lots to join your setup. When it is time to head into the stadium, you lock up and walk five minutes to the gate. After the game, the bus is waiting — no traffic, no lot search, no stress.

UT Longhorn Game-Day Guide

A UT football Saturday in Austin is one of the great American sporting experiences. Here is how to maximize it with a party bus.

8:00 AM – Bus arrives at your home or hotel. Group boards in burnt orange. Driver heads to the charter parking area near Red River Street, within walking distance of DKR.

8:30 AM – Tailgate setup. Unfold the canopy, fire up the grill, tap the keg. The bus's Bluetooth speakers blast the Longhorn Band's fight song. Cornhole boards come out. Neighbors from adjacent tailgates start drifting over.

10:30 AM – Walk to Bevo Boulevard for the official university fan zone. Live music, food trucks, and the Longhorn Band's march to the stadium. Soak in the atmosphere.

11:00 AM – Enter DKR for the noon kickoff. 100,000 fans create a wall of sound when Bevo runs onto the field. Four quarters of Big 12 football in one of America's iconic stadiums.

3:30 PM – Game ends. Skip the parking-lot gridlock — the bus is waiting at the pre-arranged pickup point on Red River. Board, crack open post-game drinks, and debrief the best (and worst) plays.

4:00 PM – Optional: bus to Scholz Garten (Austin's oldest restaurant, a block from campus) or Pluckers Wing Bar for more football on the big screens. The SEC, Big Ten, and Big 12 evening games are just getting started.

7:00 PM – Bus home. Showered, fed, and fully satisfied after the perfect game day. Nobody drove. Nobody got a parking ticket. Nobody sat in traffic for ninety minutes.

Austin FC, Formula 1, and Other Tailgates

UT football is not the only tailgating game in town. Austin FC matches at Q2 Stadium in North Austin have developed a passionate tailgate culture in just a few seasons. The supporter group La Murga de Austin sets up in the lots two hours before kickoff with drums, flags, and chants. A party bus fits right into this energy — pull up, fly the verde flag, and join the festivities.

Formula 1's United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas is a three-day event where tailgating takes on a more global flavor. Groups set up camp in the general admission areas with coolers, camping chairs, and binoculars. The bus serves as a mobile base camp — air conditioning during the hot days, a bar between sessions, and a comfortable ride home that avoids COTA's notoriously gridlocked exits.

Round Rock Express games at Dell Diamond are a more relaxed tailgating option. Minor-league baseball offers affordable tickets, generous parking, and a family-friendly atmosphere. A party bus elevates it from a simple game to a group event — birthday parties, team outings, and friend gatherings all work well with a bus to Dell Diamond.

Whatever the sport, a party bus adds the same value: it centralizes logistics, provides a mobile gathering point, and eliminates post-event driving stress. Our drivers know every stadium, every parking protocol, and every shortcut home.

Booking Your Tailgate Party Bus

Tailgate bookings are popular from September through January for football season, plus spring and summer for Austin FC and Round Rock Express. Call 512-900-8324 or submit a quote form.

UT football packages typically run eight to twelve hours — arrival three to four hours before kickoff through two to three hours after the game. Austin FC packages are shorter at four to six hours. F1 weekend packages can cover one, two, or all three days.

Groups of ten to twenty fit in our party buses. Larger groups of twenty to forty can book coach buses. Many corporate groups book multiple vehicles for company game-day outings.

UT home games are our single busiest booking category during fall. The Longhorns play six to seven home games per year, and each one fills our fleet. Book as early as possible — ideally three to four weeks before the game date. Early-season games (September) are hottest (literally and figuratively), while November rivalry games are the most in-demand.

Every rental includes the vehicle, driver, fuel, insurance, and amenities. Bring your grill, cooler, team gear, and game-day energy. We handle everything else.
