Saturday afternoon on the bus: lake, brewery, or barbecue
The daytime half of a bachelor Saturday depends on the month. From May through September the pull is Lake Travis, and the bus runs RM 620 out to a marina near Lakeway to meet a party boat, then waits in the lot for the sunburned return four hours later. In spring and fall the better version is a brewery afternoon. Jester King sits on Fitzhugh Road southwest of town, a thirty-five-minute run down US-290 with a shaded lawn, goats, and pizza, and the drive back into Austin along the Oak Hill stretch is when the group finally decides on the night. East Austin makes an easier loop, with Zilker Brewing, Lazarus, and Hold Out within a mile of each other off East Sixth and Seventh, so the bus barely has time to cool down between them. Somewhere in the middle there is brisket, either a wait at Franklin on East 11th that the driver builds around or a quieter line at Terry Black's on Barton Springs Road with the bus parked out back.
How the night runs from a house in Bouldin to last call
Most bachelor groups rent a house rather than a hotel, and the rental is usually in Bouldin, Travis Heights, or East Cesar Chavez. The bus arrives around eight while the groom is still being handed a drink on the porch. The first twenty minutes downtown are the pregame everyone remembers: lights on, the cooler open, a speech from the best man that nobody asked for. The driver drops the group on West Sixth first, where the patios along Rio Grande are loud early and the crowd is a little older, then swings back for the ride across I-35 to East Sixth around ten thirty. That side of the highway is where the night gets long. The White Horse has a band and a dance floor, the patios along Sixth and Comal take a crowd of twelve without a cover, and the bus waits on a side street north of Seventh where a driver can actually stop. By one the question is Rainey or home, and the bus is the answer either way.

The other Austin bachelor party: golf, shooting, and the Hill Country
Not every groom wants Sixth Street, and some of the best bachelor days on our buses never go downtown at all. Topgolf on Burnet Road near the Domain fills a Saturday afternoon with a bay, a tab, and a lot the bus can wait in, and the Domain itself has bars a block from the drop. A shooting range out toward Manor or a round of golf at a course in Lakeway turns into a full-day booking with the bus as the locker room, the cooler, and the ride between. The Hill Country version heads out US-290 with a stop at a distillery in Dripping Springs, a late lunch at the Salt Lick in Driftwood where twenty people at a picnic table is normal, and a return through Oak Hill as the sun drops. Why the bus works better than six rideshares
The math of a bachelor night in Austin is simple once you have tried the other way. Twelve guys moving from a rental in Travis Heights to West Sixth need three cars, and on a Saturday night in April two of them arrive at different corners and one gets cancelled. At one thirty in the morning the surge outside a bar on Red River is the priciest part of the weekend, and it still splits the group. The bus is one pickup, one driver, and one corner everyone knows to be at. The cooler stays cold between stops, the jackets stay on the seats, and the groom is never the one figuring out where his brother went. About 55% of Austin requests are for a Saturday, which is why the Friday night version of the same plan is a little easier to get a specific bus for. Groups of eight or ten who want the same night in a smaller cabin usually ride a limo sprinter, which parks closer to Rainey and still has the lights and the sound.
