The coach earns its seat count on the highway. Austin to Dallas is about three hours up I-35, Austin to Houston is close to the same on US-290 and I-10, and a coach with a restroom and reclining seats turns that into a nap or a working morning instead of a convoy of vans stopping at every Buc-ee's. Full-size coach quotes in our booking data have historically worked out to a median of about $45 per passenger, the lowest per-seat figure in the fleet, which is why large groups end up here even when the destination is closer to home.
University groups book it more than anyone: a chapter formal in San Antonio, club sports traveling to a tournament, a student organization headed to a conference in Houston, or a graduation weekend when every family in town needs to get from campus to the Palmer Events Center at the same time.
